By popular demend we are now able to deliver to Holbrook on Tuesdays and Saturdays. We are currently delivering leaflets to promote this and the service will commence on 7th June.

From 3rd May 2011 The Duffield Dairy will be starting doorstep deliveries to Little Eaton.
After the recent retirement of Peter Jeffries, Little Eatons milkman for the last 44 years, we felt it was the right time to offer the popular service we have been providing to Duffield and Quarndon since July last year, now to the residents of Little Eaton also.

We were pleased to maintain the early morning deliveries throughout the bad snow. The wife wasn't as happy though as the bad weather meant more call outs to the fire station for me so she had to take over the round on a couple of occasions.
We had a lot of problems to contend with at the farm. Getting up at 4am to see the thermometer at -18° was a bit of a shock. It took 2-3 hours each morning to defrost the parlour before we could begin ...Read Full Post »

Did you know that milk sold in the supermarkets is homogenised? This is a mechanical process used to break down the particles of fat in the milk so that they are evenly spread and no natural separation of the cream occurs. It has taken some getting there, things are not always as straight forward as they seem, but I am pleased to announce that we will be starting deliveries in the middle of July.
We have received the approval from the council environmental health - oh the paperwork involved! The milk has been sent away for sampling and stringent testing, obviously this is an ongoing procedure, with impressive results.

The Pasteuriser, and separator are now installed and i have had some training on the operation of these, but some more to do next week. Will post some photo's of the processing room in a few days.
Done my Food Safety Level 3 course now, was difficult to find a course that was not cancelled due to the lack of people needing this qualification so ending up going to southampton college to do this. It was like going on holiday.
